Safety At SEEdebate

What SEEdebate does:

  • The site is moderated: all comments and posts are reviewed. Moderators are either licensed teachers, experienced web moderators or students working toward a degree.
  • Educator user accounts are checked for accuracy and genuineness. Educators must provide us with the name, address and phone number of the school they are affiliated with.
  • Student profile information is viewable ONLY to themselves and to the administrator of the class they are subscribed to (their teacher or a SEEdebate staff member).
  • Students cannot join SEEdebate without a code from their teacher.

What Teachers should do:

  • Contact us if you have any concerns about a post or a member at SEEdebate.
  • Make sure your students' user names do not contain information that indicates specific location or real name.
  • Don't give out personal information to anyone you or SEEdebate have not verified.
  • Don't respond to offensive messages - let SEEdebate know about anything you deem inappropriate.

General Internet Safety Tips for Teachers and Students:

  • Never give out personal information to anyone you have not verified.
  • Never respond to offensive or threatening messages.
  • Never agree to meet face-to-face with someone whom you've established an online relationship. Even if you feel you have verified who the person is, always have a trusted adult accompany you.
