Local Colombians Plea to Release Hostages

Colombian-Americans in Western New York are joining people around the world demanding the liberation of hostages in their homeland.

Today is Independence Day in Colombia, and a group of local Colombians celebrating that event at Como Lake Park are joining the worldwide efforts to end the hostage-taking by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, a group of leftist rebels.

You may remember earlier this month that 15 hostages, including three American Defense Contractors, were freed in Colombia after being held by the rebels for years.
They were rescued in a dramatic operation by the Colombian military disguised as aide workers.

Still more than 2,000 hostages are still imprisoned in Colombia. And the Colombian-Americans gathered at Como Lake Park today want the kidnappings to end and the hostages to be freed.
Some people demanding freedom today say many of the current hostages are not as high-profile as the ones who've been released. And they too should be recognized and set free.
